The Staff Advocacy Committee (SAC) advises the college administration on issues of importance to the staff. It originated as the Personnel Advisory Task Force, established by Hampshire president Adele Simmons in 1984 to solicit staff input and advise the Personnel Director concerning reductions in the size of the staff. The work of the committee culminated in a Workforce Management Plan in 1990. The committee also wrote a Workplace Democracy Statement in 1990 that was ultimately adopted by the college, and changed the body's name to the Staff Advocacy Committee that year. The SAC functioned until 1997, then became inactive until 1999.

Additional materials, including meeting minutes, agendas, and correspondence from the SAC and Personnel Advisory Task Force from 1984 to 2011, can be accessed by appointment in the Hampshire College Archives and Special Collections.
